Branching Out

Fall is here and winter will be here before we know it .  With Wolfgang officially on the move in the walking department, the urge to keep him and and myself entertained is now a main priority.  Since we live in central Illinois our town is the main hub for all the little towns that surround us.  Well, since it was the end of the week and the weather was "blah" and we already had been to our local Target and Starbucks 100 times.  It was time to branch out.
I packed up Wolfie in the car, and we headed to the little town of Clinton, to do our normal errand running in not so familiar surroundings. I know this seems really lame, but since I work from home and am the main care taker of the kiddo it is the smalls things in life that freshin' things up!

Soup Date

Today was a true fall day, extra windy and chilly.  So today my favorite blogger mommy Meredith suggested we have some good soup.  So I warmed up the chicken barley soup I made on Monday(recipe can be found here) ran to Panera Bread to buy two bread bowls, and POOF! Insta-soup date!

Brown & Orange

My two new favorite colors, brown and orange, seem to be popping up a lot lately in the blog world. These two colors defined a decade, and left many homes scarred with their bold past.  Maybe it's your grandma's kitchen, once brand new when she retired in 1978 with the latest "neutral"color pallet adorning every inch of her mobile home. Maybe it was that local donut shop that thought the dark brown woodgrain formica booths would be a timeless look for customers through the generations. Or possibly, your living in that apartment your landlord calls vintage, but really it looks like an old truck stop. Well, however you view the color combo of brown and orange it's here to stay and its better than ever!  Personally,  I can't get enough of wearing orangish-dress with brown-ish tights and my orange wellies (yes all in one outfit mishmashed together maybe, a little over the top?) Never the less brown and orange is a classic combo.  Here are some design bloopers from the past.
What better colors to bring out Mrs. Brady's natural beauty?
Looking for decorating ideas? Look no further! With these dark tones your sure to turn any room in your home into a sultry lounge.
A perfectly preserved 70's apartment for that new college grad looking to branch out from nest of mother's and father's home.  Those orange counter tops would  go swimmingly with my lime green fondue set.

Okay, so I've made my point of showing some of the less attractive orange and brown combos, here are some new modern takes on the blunders from the past.

Of course I would own this Sputnik style high chair for lil' Wolfie.

New Obsession: Plaid

I've started on a new fashion obsession, plaid.  I am not sure how this new fondness for it has come about, but I seem to be hoarding it a lot lately.  Maybe it is the change of seasons, or my yearning for always wanting to have a school uniform, or the fact it is a vintage style staple.  None the less, I am loving it and want it in all forms. I especially get extra giddy when I pick up a plaid piece of clothing at a thrift and realize it had a Pendleton Wool Mills tag. ZOINKS!
Okay sorry for the geeking out just a moment ago, here are some of my favorite plaid inspirations, obsessions, and styles.

This is where the plaid magic happens.

Halloween

This makes it Halloween number two for our little boy Wolfgang this year.  Last Halloween he was a measley two weeks old, but being the crafty mom I am of course I made him a last minute costume.  As a side note, Wolfgang arrived ten days early so we were planning on being in the hospital and his octopus costume was made in a pinch!
I can't believe he was this little last year!

My first Halloween as a lady bug (1 year 1 month). I asked what I was before I turned one and my mom said that "back then" we didn't take babies out when they were that little. That kinda made me feel old when she said that. Also, I would like to say my mom made my costume EVERY year. She's the best!

So, for this year's festivities I was treating it like it was our first Halloween as a family, since Wolfie is a little bit more livley this time around. I was excited to dress up this year too (last year I was still recovering from a c-section). I went through many ideas and thought we would be going as a chicken and the egg, but the night before I went with the gnome idea. I love gnomes, my grandma loves gnomes, and I am Norwegian so, being a gnome fit for this year. Plus gnomes are just so darn cute!

I guess he thought the gnome wanted easy-mac.

The combined cost of our costumes was a little under $20, I'm sure in the years to come I won't be able to come off that thrifty . If Wolfgang is anything like his mum he will want to be ridiculous things that take a lot of sewing and fabric. Thank goodness my mum passed down her sewing machine to me so I can start working on my skills.
